Welcome to The Orange
Just what we all need – another blog!
I won’t try and compete with the movie star blogsters like David Farrar (imitation is flattery and can I please have a plug in your blog after the election?). Instead, I’ll try to keep my attention on important things like the Warriors, Black Craps, and the AB’s rather than trivial things like politics and world peace.
As it was once said – sport is not life and death, it’s more important than that!
And while we’re getting the fundamentals sorted, here’s a backhanded shout-out to Willie Lose at Radio Sports.
I wasn’t really thinking about a blog until I heard his comments about the sacking of Tony Kemp and the hiring of Ivan Cleary. I don’t mind him having an opinion … I suppose that’s his job … but you would expect him to get his basic facts right. So I though if Willie can have a radio show of his own without even knowing the facts, I could spout my opinion via my own blog.
I suspect the Warriors might feature here frequently, so why not make them the subject of the first blog? When Kemp was first appointed, Cleary and Campo were still in Australia and joined at the end of last season – the start of the 2005 season. Willie tried to claim that Cleary and Campo had been part of Kemp’s coaching collective (this has all of a sudden gone alliterative!) from the start. Willie also couldn’t name straightaway the Channel 9 commentator helping the Warriors … and he’s being paid to do his job??
As for Kemp, he was admittedly in a tough position – if he did no good it was his fault, but if the team improved, Cleary and Campo could be attributed with the credit.
For the record, I have more confidence in Cleary as a coach altho I like and respect Kemp – he handled himself amazingly after being dumped. Perhaps he should have showed the same level of professionalism than his famous dummy spit when he rang the referees’ boss Finch to moan… during a game!!
So that’s it. The first blog. The database is working – I had to resort to RTFM! And unlike Radio Sport, at least if you disagree, you can always respond and I won’t cut you off!
